Modern Pilates was founded in 1999 and, at the time, was only the fifth Pilates studio in Massachusetts. Owner Lisa Johnson considers herself a “Pilates Geek” and has traveled the world to learn all that she can about Pilates and how it can make people look and feel better. She has studied in Toronto, Los Angeles, Phoenix, London, Sydney, Australia, and more, working with the top people in the industry such as Moira Stott, Ron Fletcher, and Sarah Christensen.

Our focus is on you. Modern Pilates gives you the best possible workout for that day, catering to your needs and your goals. With over 600 exercises to choose from, we can customize any workout. Our instructors have an average of more than five years experience as Pilates instructors and are simply the best at what they do.

It is our mission to provide the best Pilates instruction in the country. We keep challenging our clients, increasing their strength, improving their looks, and decreasing aches and pains. We provide the highest level of customer service.

Our goal is to create an oasis for our clients as they focus solely on their body, taking a respite from their daily activities to feel better both emotionally and physically. As a team, the entire Modern Pilates staff are responsible for creating this environment for you.

About Lisa Johnson, Founder

Lisa JohnsonLisa Johnson is highly regarded in the American fitness industry. She runs an award-winning Pilates studio and has quickly established herself as a writer of integrity on all things fitness. As a trainer who is “in the trenches” working daily with people, Lisa brings a unique perspective to her fitness writing. She is not only an active fitness professional but also knows how to translate even the most complex movement to the average Jane.

Lisa has appeared as a fitness expert in numerous publications including The New York TimesGlamourFamily CircleThe Boston GlobeEntrepreneur, and Inc. Her television appearances include CBS News and “Sundays with Liz Walker” on WBZ-TV Boston.

As a writer, Lisa was a columnist for PilatesStyle Magazine from 2006 through 2008 and has written extensively at her blog, Lisa Johnson Fitness: One Body … Treat it Well. Her first two fitness DVDs, “Modern Pilates with Lisa Johnson” and “Body Physica: INTENSE,” were released in December of 2012.
